Capítulo Diez: Todo lo Que Reluce No es Oro

Yo vine a entender que lo que se ve, no siempre es lo que hay en realidad, especialmente en la iglesia mormona. Oro falso no es oro puro. Pero a los no expertos, parece real. Una vez que se consiga entendimiento y experiencia, es fácil distinguir entre lo falso y lo verdadero. Una vez abiertos mis ojos, vi cosas que no veía antes. Pareció como si yo hubiera estado ciega pero ahora era capaz de ver la verdad.

Las Industrias Deseret hacen propaganda por medio de anuncios televisivos. Es un afiliado con la iglesia mormona. La gente (miembros, por norma) dan, como acto de caridad, artículos que en turno se venden o a veces son comprados con fondos de la iglesia por un obispo mormón para un miembro o miembros necesitados. Un anuncio muestra alguien donando un hermoso vestido de niña, el cual pasa por las manos de los trabajadores de Industrias Deseret (abreviado DI, para «Deseret Industries» en inglés) y se destina a un país pobre (quizás México) donde una niña feliz lo recibe. Esto parece tan lindo, pero yo sé por cierto que no va así. Yo ayudaba a DI, trabajando ocho horas al día durante meses. Muchas de las cosas contribuidas llegaban manchadas, con agujeros, y cremalleras rotas; algunas prendas totalmente inútiles. Algunos miembros hasta «regalaban» ropas del templo viejas y ensuciadas con sus marcas todavía intactas. Los artículos útiles y en buena condición se vendían o se compraban por miembros y trabajadores. Los peores artículos, los que no se pudieron utilizar, con cremalleras rotas o manchas, se metían en sacos enormes y se mandaban a México y otros lugares. ¡Increíble, pero cierto! Así la iglesia mormona hacía parecer a DI de ser una organización maravillosa, sirviendo a la gente fuera de la iglesia mormona, cuando en realidad sólo se hacía servicio a sí mismo y no a los necesitados como propuesto al público.

Ahora anuncian por la televisión que la SUD regala Biblias sin obligación. Aunque así declaran, tiene su compromiso. Empieza con una Biblia gratis. Cuando vengan a regalársela a usted, citan otra visita. A la vuelta traen consigo un Libro de Mormón. Su único deseo y propósito es introducirle a su iglesia. Ni siquiera tienen la palabra «mormón» en sus iglesias, ni tampoco en sus anuncios ya, para que la gente no suspicaz piense que sean iglesias cristianas, y se entregue a su falsa religión. Emplearon el nombre «La Iglesia de Jesucristo» durante la Olimpiada 2002, para facilitarle al público a creer que fuesen cristianos.

Otra cosa extraña es la colocación de campanarios o agujas en las capillas para hacer que se vean más protestante. Esto implica mucho gasto para ellos, pero se hace con el propósito de desviar a la gente, engañándoles a pensar que son como otras denominaciones cristianas.

Le llevan a creer que sus miembros, sobre todo los poseedores del merecimiento del templo, son morales y puros, casi perfectos. Yo lo he descubierto ser de otra manera. Entre mis experiencias personales, tanto como relatos compartidos conmigo por otros, han habido experiencias dolorosas de incesto, adulterio, fornicación, abuso mental y muchos otros abusos por miembros hacia otros miembros. Estas injusticias han sido cometidas hasta por los más respetados del merecimiento. Algunos encubrieron todo hasta que el paso del tiempo se lo dejara en el olvido, o hasta el punto en que ellos mismos se convencieron de que sus buenas obras fueran suficientes para cubrir el error de sus hechos. Sintieron que sus buenas obras pudieran cambiarse por el perdón, y no «confesaron», al menos que estuvieran forzados, o fuesen descubiertos.

Una de mis experiencias fue con el maestro del hogar quien me dijo que no tenía por qué preocuparme de encontrar a alguien si todavía se practicaba la poligamia, y me abrazó antes de poderlo evitar. Yo he escuchado hombres hablar de cosas impropias e insensibles.

Ciertos hombres en el liderazgo querían convencerme de salir con un señor quien se había separado de su esposa porque ella no era «activa» en la «verdadera iglesia». Él se divorció de ella y fue instruido a casarse con otra más digna, dejando a los hijos con su madre atrás. A mí todo esto era erróneo y contradictorio, ya que el «profeta» de aquel tiempo aconsejaba a las mujeres de no salir con un hombre casado, ni siquiera si se hubiera separado (anotado en El Milagro del Perdón, [Miracle of Forgiveness en inglés], por Spencer W. Kimball).

Los obispos y otros líderes me dijeron que necesitaban oír confesiones completas de todos los errores «serios» de una persona o no serían perdonados. Era el obispo, el «stake» presidente ú otro líder de la iglesia quien decidía si alguien se consideraba «digno» del perdón, no Dios directamente. Yo no supe la verdad entonces, pero ahora me doy cuenta de que sólo tenemos que compartir nuestra confesión y arrepentimiento con Dios y con la persona ofendida. Es Dios, no la iglesia ni miembros de ella, quien al final nos perdona y nos permite acercarnos a él, después de aceptarle a su Hijo Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador personal. Yo y otros sufrimos traición dentro de la iglesia mormona por líderes y miembros cuando cosas que debieran haber sido guardado calladas y en confianza, no lo fueron.

Al compartir estas experiencias reales en este libro, llego a la realización de que todos somos imperfectos, yo incluido. Sin embargo, mi preocupación no es con el individuo, sino con la religión.

Líderes mormones me han dicho, a veces con bastante arrogancia, que ellos tienen respuesta, o encontrarán la respuesta a cualquier pregunta que yo tuviera. Los sacerdotes católicos con quienes hablé de muchacha me dijeron que no supieron las respuestas a mis muchas preguntas. No me quedé satisfecha con ninguno de estos enfoques a mis preguntas; pero sí sé ahora que no saber algo no es malo.

Se dice que José Smith sólo tuvo una educación «hasta el tercer grado»; por eso, con tal conocimiento no podía haber escrito el Libro de Mormón sin ser inspirado por Dios. Se dice del analfabeto Mohammed que él preparó el Corán bajo «inspiración de Dios». ¡Falsa profecías! Si sólo se estudia bien de cerca, se verán muchas profecías falsas. Una de mis preferidas es por Brigham Young quien proclamó esta maldición a los de la apostasía: «pero que sigan con su apostasía, y se harán como el mismo diablo, con el pelo gris, viejos, y negros» (Diario de Discursos, volumen 5, página 332).

El mismo José Smith habló de la venida del Señor al transcurrir cincuenta y seis años, apuntado en 1835, en La Historia de la Iglesia, volumen 5, página 336. Por supuesto, usted sabe que esto no ocurrió.

La iglesia SUD se jacta de millones de miembros. Profesan que crecen los números a diario. Cuando nosotros escribimos a Salt Lake City para borrar nuestros nombres del registro de sus miembros, ellos nos mandaron una carta pidiéndonos volver al rebaño. Tardó años hasta borrar por fin a nuestros nombres de su registro. Celebramos el día cuando por fin sucedió. Conozco a otros quienes a pesar de su continuo esfuerzo, no pudieron quitar sus nombres de esa lista. Por eso yo me pregunto si la cuenta de sus miembros es precisa. Quizás impresiona en papel, pero no creo que sea un auténtico censo de los miembros de la iglesia mormona. Los mormones declaran que la SUD es de Dios. De hecho dicen que Dios Padre y Jesucristo, su Hijo, habitan en el templo cuando estén en la tierra.

En Isaías 66:1-2, dice: «Jehová dijo así: El cielo es mi trono, y la tierra estrado de mis pies; ¿dónde está la casa que me habréis de edificar, y dónde el lugar de mi reposo? Mi mano hizo todas estas cosas, y así todas estas cosas fueron, dice Jehová; pero miraré a aquel que es pobre y humilde de espíritu, y que tiembla a mi palabra.»

¿Cómo se atrevería a creer que se pudiera construir una casa para Dios? Ni la quiere ni le hace falta. Lo que busca es alguien de espíritu pobre, alguien quien preste atención a su Palabra, no quien se invente por sí mismo palabras nuevas para seguir.

José Smith tomó a I Corintios 15:29, y lo usó para su propia interpretación para sugerir que el bautismo de los muertos fuera algo que realmente se hiciera antes y que faltaba volver a ello. El sacó del contexto el versículo.

Si se examina La Historia de la Iglesia bajo los masones, se ve que José Smith era masón cuando se autoproclamó «profeta» de la que describió ser «la única y verdadera iglesia». ¿Cómo puede ser esto? El explicó que se le fue dicho en la Primera Visión que todas las iglesias eran falsas y todas abominables a Dios.

Entonces, ¿por qué incorporó a rituales y costumbres como el choque de mano en la ceremonia del templo? ¿Por qué era líder de los masones al mismo tiempo que era el tal nombrado profeta del tal nombrado «única y verdadera iglesia»? Algunos miembros dijeron que José Smith tuvo que haber conseguido las ceremonias y rituales del templo de los masones. Esto no tiene sentido. En el Antiguo Testamento, dice que la ley antigua era cumplida por el sacrificio de Jesús. Ahora vivimos por una ley más alta, la del amor, no de rituales y muerte.

El templo de Salt Lake City es un símbolo de orgullo y de gloria para los mormones. Tardó muchos años en su construcción. En el libro El Templo de Salt Lake: Un Monumento de un Pueblo, se traen a la luz muchos hechos interesantes acerca del templo. Me sorprendió que tal libro se vendiera en una librería SUD. ¿Usted se ha preguntado por qué el templo de Salt Lake City está decorado con símbolos satánicos? Quizás no sabía como yo el significado de estos símbolos y lo que transmiten. El pentagrama invertido es el signo universal de Satanás, el opuesto de Cristo. Este símbolo se ve en puertas y ventanas del templo de Salt Lake City. También se puede encontrar en su forma «más demoníaca» (con la punta de abajo elongada) en el Portón del Águila en la Plaza del Templo y en el templo de Logan. Cuando estuvimos en Nauvoo, Illinois, vimos algunos restos del templo tanto como fotos e historias de ello. Once pentagramas grandes e invertidos se dicen fueron usados en el templo de Nauvoo.

Vimos por nosotros mismos una de las piedras del sol en Nauvoo, Illinois. Algo diferente es al del templo de Salt Lake. En el Antiguo Testamento, Dios castigó a los Israelitas por su adoración al ídolo, «Baal», mostrado como una imagen del sol. ¿No supieron esto los líderes y profetas mormones? Si contestan que sí, estos símbolos no deberían de haberse visto jamás en el templo; y si no, no han leído ni han comprendido la Biblia nada como proclaman. Brigham Young tuvo gran parte en todo aspecto de la construcción del templo de Salt Lake City. Trabajó con él su cuñado y otros muchos. Me pregunto si los líderes de la iglesia conocieron o no los símbolos y su significado mientras construyeron al templo. ¿Tuvieron conocimiento o ni siquiera prestaron atención? ¿Qué de «evitar la apariencia del mal» (1 Tesalonicenses 5:22), como nos advierte el Nuevo Testamento? ¿No se para usted a considerar por qué añadieron estos símbolos al templo y preguntarse de paso por qué están allí aún? ¿Son tan ingenuos los mormones, o están escondiendo algo?

Dicen que en la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días tiene que hacer las ordenanzas para sus muertos; así que a cada uno se le dirige a establecerse su propia genealogía. En la Biblia pone que las genealogías interminables no son buenas, sino llevan a confusión y a contención. A menudo son inexactos. Las genealogías quitan el enfoque de los vivos quienes son los necesitados aquí, ahora. Léaselo por sí mismo en Tito 3:9, y I Timoteo 1:4.

La iglesia SUD declara que sus miembros son libres. Pero, el liderazgo siempre les está dictando que deben de hacer, que decir, hasta como vestirse (por ejemplo, los atavíos del templo/ropas interiores). Si un miembro rehúsa hacer lo que ellos digan, se le informa al miembro que hace mal y se le amenaza con ser excomulgado, o de ya no ser digno de entrar al templo, ni al reino celestial.

Nos dijeron que no podíamos tener nuestro propio grupo de estudio religioso: ni bíblico, ni mormón, porque se ha mandado que este tipo de reunión sea vigilado por líderes de la iglesia, imponiendo otro control más, como y que se aprende.

La ironía es que yo me he encontrado con muchos mormones ignorantes de cuáles sean sus propias creencias y doctrinas. Esto ocurre porque no tienen idea de la historia de su iglesia. La SUD sufrió muchos cambios desde su comienzo, al igual que la iglesia católica. Estos cambios no se les ofrece como información a los nuevos miembros recién agrupados a la iglesia. Ciertos mormones se ocupan tanto de sus problemas personales en su vida diaria, que no lo consideran importante, ni necesario, estudiar acerca del pasado de la iglesia dónde pertenece.

Si ellos leyesen su propia La Historia de la Iglesia, Diario de Discursos, y ediciones tempranas del Libro de Mormón, junto con Doctrinas y Convenios (anteriormente titulado El Libro de Mandamientos), entonces verían por sí mismo las falsas doctrinas y abundantes contradicciones. La SUD se ha edificado encima de cimiento arenoso, no en la Roca de Dios.

Recogimos a muchas piezas de oro falso creyendo que era oro de verdad. Al final llegamos a la triste realización de que las creencias de la iglesia mormona no se basan en la verdad. Yo había sido como ese oro falso, impuro, ilusorio y no auténtico; pero ahora he pasado por el fuego del Refinador. Soy oro puro en la mano del Maestro.

Chapter Ten: All That Glitters Isn't Gold

I found out that what you see isn't always what you get, especially in the Mormon Church. Fool's gold isn't really gold. However, to those who don't have the experience and knowledge they need in such matters, it appears to be real. Once someone gains knowledge and experience, it is very easy to distinguish between fools gold and the real thing. Once my eyes were opened, I saw things that I never saw before. It seemed like I was blind and now I could see.

Things often appear to be one way, but they are really not as they appear to be. For example, the LDS Church has television commercials that advertise Deseret Industries which is affiliated with their church. People (usually members) donate items to D. I. which are then sold to others, or sometimes bought with church funds by a Mormon bishop for a member(s) in need. One of the commercials show a person donating a beautiful girl's dress which when passed through the hands of the workers at D. I.; it ends up in some poor country, perhaps Mexico, where a girl receives it happily. However, I know first-hand that is not how it really happens. I helped out at D. I. for months, full-time. A lot of the donations that are given are stained, with holes, broken zippers, and some completely unuseable. Some members even donated old and dirty temple garments with their markings still in them. Now the best of the donations are sold or bought and kept by members/workers. The worst, the unuseable, with broken zippers, holes, stains, etc., were made into huge bundles and donated to people in Mexico and other places. Unbelievable, but true! It is of little or no value to the people receiving it but it looks good to others, especially outside of the Mormon Church.

They now advertise about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints giving away free Bibles with no obligation. That is just the beginning. When the missionaries come to give you a free Bible, they set up another time to come back. When they return, however, they bring a Book of Mormon with them. The whole desire and purpose is to bring you into their church. The LDS/Mormon Church does not even have the word "Mormon" on their churches, or in their advertisements anymore, and so unsuspecting people may think that they are a Christian church, and join their false religion. Now they say they are going to be using just The Church of Jesus Christ, to make it easier for the public to know they are "Christian." How can it be that they can change the name of their church when they said God commanded them to name it The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints so that people would know that it was Christ's church in these latter-days. It is all very confusing and contradictory to me. In 1830, the name of their church was the Church of Christ. In 1835, their church was named The Church of The Latter Day Saints.

Moreover, in Mormonism words have different meanings. For example, GOD! They say that God is made of flesh and bones; and that there are three separate gods in the godhead. But the Bible says that God is a Spirit and that God is three in one, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. And so on, and so on.

Members, especially temple recommend holders, are considered moral and clean. I have my own personal experiences, and others have shared with me their painful experiences of incest, adultery, fornication, addictions of pornography, physical abuse, mental abuse, and many other abuses, even of members by members, "even" temple recommend holders. Some covered it up until time made people forget or they thought by doing good deeds they would be forgiven and did not "confess" unless forced to.

My home teacher told me that I would not have to worry about finding someone if polygamy was still being practiced, then hugged me before I could stop him. I heard men talk about lusting after their wives and many other things that I was taught when I was a child were improper and ill-mannered.

Once, when I was single, I was encouraged by men in leadership to date a man who was separated from his wife because she was "inactive" in the "true church." He divorced her and was instructed to marry a more worthy mate leaving his children and their mother behind even though the then "prophet" counseled not to date a married man even if separated (Miracle of Forgiveness, Spencer W. Kimball).

Bishops and other leaders told me that they needed to hear full confessions of all of a person's mistakes of 'serious' kind or they could not be forgiven. It was either the bishop, stake president, or other church leaders who decided whether or not a person was "worthy" of forgiveness, not God directly. I believe now that the only one that needs to hear our confession and apology is God and the person we offended or if need be, someone else who you can trust. "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 5:16). It is God who ultimately forgives us and allows us to come to Him, after we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. Nonetheless, we need to forgive and forget other's sins to be forgiven.

Also, things that were to be kept quiet and confidential, were not at times, which caused more pain and distress to the person who hoped and wanted it to be kept between the church leader and themselves. In sharing these true experiences I realize all people are imperfect, including me. However, my concerns now are not with the individual but with the religion.

Mormons leaders would say, sometimes quite arrogantly, they had the answer or would find out the answer to whatever question I asked. However, the Catholic priests I talked with while growing up said they did not know the answer to many questions. I did not like that then; however, now I see that not knowing requires a faith in God. This faith in Him helps you build a closer relationship and a trust in Him.

They say that Joseph Smith only had a "third grade education"; therefore, he could not have written the Book of Mormon unless inspired by God. However, the illiterate Mohammed is said to have put together the Koran being "inspired by God"! False prophecies! There are many if one just looks to see! One of my favorites is this one by Brigham Young who said this curse upon those who apostatize, ". . . but let them apostatize, and they will become gray-haired, wrinkled, and black, just like the Devil." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 5, p. 332).

Joseph Smith even prophesied of the coming of the Lord in fifty-six years; this was recorded in l835 in the History of the Church, Vol. 2, p. 182, Vol. 5, p. 336. Of course, you know that prophesy did not come true.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints boasts of millions of members. It says that the numbers are growing each day. When we wrote to The Church Office in Salt Lake City to have our names taken off of the membership roles, they sent a letter asking us to come back into the fold. We continued to get mail and visits from people from the church for a long time. I also know of others who could not get their names removed from the LDS records, even though they tried over and over, too. After much effort and time we finally succeeded. The day we found out our names had been removed from their church records we celebrated. Nonetheless, I question the number of members. It may look good on paper but I don't believe it is very accurate.

They say that the temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be of God. In fact, they say that God the Father and Jesus Christ, His Son, dwell in the temple when on the earth. When Jesus came to earth he said he came to fulfill the law. He said that the old is done away and now we were to live by the higher law, LOVE. There is no need for rituals and sacrifices because Jesus Christ is the ultimate sacrifice.

In the Old Testament it says, "Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word" (Isa. 66:1-2). How can anyone really think that they can build a house for God?! He doesn't need or want it. What he wants is one who is "poor and of a contrite spirit" who listens to His Word, and does not make up new words to follow.

Joseph Smith took 1 Corinthians 15:29 and used his own interpretation to suggest that baptism for the dead was something that actually was preformed in the past and needed to be done again. He took the scripture out of context.

If you look in the History of the Church under Masons, you will find that he was a mason while a prophet of the "one and only true church." How could this be? He said that he was told in the First Vision that all churches were wrong, and that all were abominable to God. Then why does he use the mason's rituals and handshakes . . . in the temple ceremony? Why was he a leader in the masons at the same time he was a "prophet" of the one and only true church? Some members say that Joseph Smith needed to get the temple rituals and ceremonies from the Masons. Why? It is recorded in detail in the Old Testament. Also the old law was fulfilled by Jesus' atonement. Now we live by the higher law of love, not of rituals and death.

The Salt Lake Temple has long been a symbol of pride for the Mormons. It took 40 years to build. In the book, The Salt Lake Temple: A Monument to a People, it brings to light many interesting facts. You can buy it at almost any LDS bookstore. Have you ever wondered why the Salt Lake City temple is decorated with occult, pagan symbols, which are of the devil? Perhaps you did not know, as I did not, what these symbols are and what they mean. The inverted pentagram is now recognized as a universal sign of the occult, and witchcraft, a religion totally contrary to Christ. It is on doors and windows. It is also found more in its more evil form (bottom point elongated) on the Eagle Gate at Temple Square and on the Logan Temple. When we were in Nauvoo, Illinois, we saw some remains of the temple, pictures and stories of it. Eleven large inverted pentagrams are said to have been used on the Nauvoo Temple.

We saw for ourselves one of the sun stones while in Nauvoo, Illinois. It is a little different on the Salt Lake City Temple. Moreover, in the Old Testament God punished the Israelites for the worship of Baal, shown as an image of the sun. Did not the prophets and leaders know this? Why not? Brigham Young was involved closely in all aspects of the building of the Salt Lake City temple. His brother-in-law worked with him and many others. Did they not know? Or did they know and not care? What about "avoiding the appearance of evil," as it talks about in the New Testament (1 Thes. 5:22).

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says that they need to do work for the dead so everyone is instructed to do their genealogy. In the Bible it says that endless genealogies are not good but lead to confusion and contentions. Often they are inaccurate. Also they take you away from the living who need you now. Read for yourself in Timothy 1:4, and Titus 3:9.

Mormonism teaches so much about "free agency," the freedom to choose; yet, the church leaders are always telling you what you should, or should not do, and even say and wear (temple garments /underwear etc.). If you don't do everything the leaders say then they say you are "wrong", and for some things you get excommunicated. Then they say you won't be able to go to the "celestial kingdom."

We were told not to have our own private Bible (Book of Mormon, etc.) study groups because they said they had to be at church and under the supervision of the leaders of the church. Why? Because they do not want you to think on your own. If you did, you would find the truth.

Ironically, I have found that many Mormons don't even know the deeper teachings of the Mormon Church. This is because most have not gone to the temple, except for perhaps baptism for the dead. Also they don't even know the past history of their own church. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had many changes since it beginning, just like the Catholic Church. However, to many who are just joining, it is unknown to them. Many, if not most, Mormons are so busy with present concerns of life that they don't even think it is important or necessary to study about the past history of their own church.

If they read their own History of the Church, Journal of Discourses, and early editions of the Book of Mormon and Book of Commandments they would see for themselves false teachings and contradictions. Their church is built on a sandy foundation and not the Rock of God.

We picked up many pieces of fool's gold believing they were real gold; and I too was like fool's gold, impure and unreal. Now I know that as I pass through the Refiner's fire, I am becoming like unto pure Gold in the Master's Hand.
